General Liability

Fitness & Health

We are very keen to encourage people to experience sailing and take to the water. Participants are expected to be of reasonable fitness and health. Sailing is a sport, and an amount of exertion will be required depending on the type of boat being sailed. CY&BC reserves the right to refuse or canel a booking on health or medical grounds.

Safety On the Water

At CY&BC we take on-the-water Safety very seriously. We have rescue-boats at hand for incidents/assistance. We will provide participants with buoyancy aids (or life-jackets). We expect participants to be dressed appropriately for water activities (see FAQ or contact the Training Convenor (training@cybc.ie) for queries). Should you wish to use your own Buoyancy Aid or Life Jacket, this will be in working order and of sufficient buoyancy (typically 50N minimum for an adult). Life-jackets cannot be worn for dinghy sailing (only buoyancy aids).

Water sport activities are by their very nature, hazardous. By engaging in the course participants accept there are risks and the inevitable bumps and scrapes. Serious injury like many sports, is very rare but possible.

Participants will accept all safety and general instructions given by club members & staff.

Safety Ashore

The club (yard and Club-house) are next to a busy road. Participants must cross this road to go sailing. The club uses a public slip. CY&BC are not liable for injury or accident at the slip. Participants are requested to be mindful when using public spaces.

Participants are welcome to use club facilities. Some areas are considered are 'working areas' and are out of bounds . This includes: Bar, Kitchen, ancillary offices and rooms. In the rear of the club is a large shed, this will also be out-of-bounds unless arranged for training activities.

Fenced off areas in the yard, are considered out-of-bounds (trailer-stacking areas).

Medical Attention

Participants will permit basic or emergency First Aid to be administered where and when considered necessary.

Weather & Suitable Sailing Conditions

At CY&BC we sail in a wide range of weather conditions. Unfortunately, we are not for safety reasons able to sail in certain wind conditions and sea-states. We cannot take responsibility for the weather conditions on the day and no course refund will be made for sailing time lost due to weather or sea states. We do endeavour to arrange alternative on-shore activities where possible.

Decency & Unruly Behaviour

Sailing requires consideration for others on and off the water. We warmly welcome participants to use facilitates and engage fully with the club. Participants will be guests aboard boats belonging to the club and club-members. We endeavour to make your time on the course most enjoyable. We hope you will feel welcomed by our club.

In the unlikely scenario in the club's reasonable opinion, a participant behaviour may cause danger, upset or distress to any other participant or member, or cause damage to property; CY&BC is entitled without prior notice to expel the participant immediately, without refund. The participant may be liable for any damage caused.

Photography, Video & Media Content

CY&BC will receive photos and video during the course most often provided by club-members. This may appear on club website, club-brochures, Facebook or other media streams. We do not police individual members or other participants when it comes to video/photography.

You are most welcome to take and share photos and videos of your time at the club particularly on the water.

Please do ask others present if you can take photos etc. Similarly if you do not wish to appear in a picture, please let others know beforehand.
