“The Making of a Modern Railway in Ireland” by Dick Fearn, former CEO Iarnrod Eireann/Irish Rail
Dick will begin by tracing the early development of Ireland's railways, from their foundation in the 19th century through to their nationalisation as part of CIE in the mid-20th century.
Dick will then focus on the decisions taken by the Irish Government around the year 2000 to launch a massive programme of railway investment across the country. He will describe how the railway network was renewed and regenerated, bringing about a renaissance in rail travel in Ireland in the 21st century.
Dick Fearn has 43 years experience in railway management in the UK and Ireland. He first came to Ireland in 2003 as Iarnrod Eireann's Chief Operating Officer and was subsequently Chief Executive of the company from 2006 to 2013.
